Happy Wedding Anniversary!

8 Jul

Last year I shared all of Vanessa and Jason’s lovely wedding details on my blog. I was completely delighted that Vanessa asked me to be her maid of honour and play such a special role in this momentous day. I was equally ecstatic about helping Vanessa plan her dream wedding and documenting all the fabulous details on The BB Creative.

I am proud to share that Vanessa and Jason have been happily married for one year – Congratulations! I can’t believe your wedding day was only one short year ago.

This week I received a surprise gift in the mail from the happy couple. Vanessa made me a super sweet iphoto album full of beautiful memories. Thank you so much Vanessa! The photo album is perfect.

Here are some photos from my super sweet album!

These photos with Vanessa’s old station wagon are my favourite! So fun and playful.

Here are more photos from Nicole Gerhardt Photography. Vanessa you were an incredibly gorgeous bride. Happy Anniversary!

I read this quote on sweetsugarbean this afternoon and think it is quite appropriate for this occasion: “That was a memorable day to me, for it made great changes in me.  But it is the same with any life.  Imagine one selected day struck out of it and think how different its course would have been.  Pause, you who read this, and think for a long moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on that memorable day.”
– Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

Love really is sweet. XO

It’s my blogoversary!

365 days, 121 comments, and 87 posts later The BB Creative is one year old! I’m really excited about my blogoversary. Why does this seem so much more exciting than my actual birthday?!

If you don’t mind I’m going to take a moment to reminisce and re-share some of the most popular stories, ideas, and projects I posted on The BB Creative.

I really have to thank my dear friend Vanessa for asking me to be her maid of honour and allowing me to blog about her charming Saskatchewan wedding. I loved blogging about Vanessa’s wedding and I think my readers enjoyed it as well. My posts on Vanessa’s wedding are some of the most popular stories on The BB Creative.

I started The BB Creative as a space for me to explore and reconnect with my artistic childhood dreams, to showcase past and present projects, and to share the work of other creatives that inspire me. I’ve really enjoyed sharing my handmade projects with you, my readers. This blog is an excellent catalogue of projects, events, tutorials and random inspiration I’ve found on other blogs that continue to motivate me creatively.

These aren’t necessarily my most popular posts, but they are some of my favourites and I believe they are worth revisiting because they have helped me get to where I am today.

Give Thanks

I don’t think that I would have started this modest blog without the encouragement of the lovely Crafty Ladies! They gave me the extra little push I needed to start The BB Creative. They are the best and I love getting together for our crafternoons and later blogging about our crafty projects. Thanks for the moral support ladies!

I find keyword searches that bring people to The BB Creative really amusing. But I also take these Google keyword searches as huge compliments; I can’t believe that such lovely words direct people to my blog. Here are some of my favourite keyword searches from the past year:

  • gorgeous whimsical (love this!)
  • amazing invitations (obviously for Vanessa’s wedding)
  • vintage cheesecake (hahaha – what is vintage cheesecake?! Hilarious.)
  • hippie posters
  • i love art
  • dream

I can’t believe The BB Creative is a whole year old! Thank you so much for reading, whoever you are.  I am always amazed and surprised that people other than my mom find what I write about interesting. I know that time is a precious commodity and really appreciate that you are willing to share a small part of your busy week with me. Thank you.

I have posted extensively about Vanessa’s stunning wedding. I had the time of my life as Vanessa’s maid of honour – helping her plan, design, and bring to life her dream wedding. Vanessa and Jason’s wedding was magical and Nicole Gerhardt Photography has the photos to prove it.

Nicole and her assistant did an incredible job of capturing all the special moments and small details of Vanessa and Jason’s perfect day. Her photos are perfection. The bride and groom were simply stunning. I have never seen Vanessa look so radiant! What an incredibly gorgeous bride.

The bridal party with the beautiful bride. I love our bright and colourful bouquets. So lovely!

I love these group photos. The photo shoot was soo much fun!

The happy and gorgeous couple. Love you guys!

Nicole’s photos truly capture Vanessa and Jason’s love for each other. It was such a happy day! Nicole did a fabulous job. I can’t compliment her enough. Please check out more photos from Vanessa and Jason’s lovely farmyard wedding on Nicole’s blog. You can also visit Nicole on her website, facebook, and twitter.

Eclectic & Lovely DIY Wedding Projects

10 Jul

This post is dedicated to Vanessa and her amazing team of family and friends who helped make her dream wedding possible. Vanessa put a lot of thought into all the small details of her wedding and I want to highlight some of the amazing DIY projects we worked on for her vintage inspired, eclectic wedding. Unfortunately I don’t have photos of all the unique projects that made this day extra special. The days before and after the wedding are such a blur.

Tabitha, the other bridesmaid, created some beautiful bunting for the wedding. Tabitha is super creative and talented and I wish I had some photos of the bunting to showcase. Please make sure you visit her etsy store, Sparrow Gardens. She has some lovely headpieces and vintage clothing in her store.

The photos tagged “inspiration” are photos that Vanessa and I found, loved, and based some of her creative projects on. I will try to link to blogs and tutorials with more information when possible. Enjoy the eye candy!!!

Table Numbers: Inspiration from Arizona Ranch Wedding found on Style Me Pretty.

Photo Clothesline: Inspiration from Fabulous Weddings.

DIY Tree Pedestal Cake Stands: Inspiration and tutorial from Once Wed.

V “hearts” J Posters: I can’t find where the inspiration image came from. It doesn’t matter, our posters are better.

Table Centerpieces: Pretty garden flowers and vintage/recycled vases. So lovely and colourful!

Upcycled Chandelier and Reception Lighting: Thank you to the boys who helped figure out the logistics for the lighting! This was much more complicated that I thought it would be.

The incredibly beautiful garden where the wedding ceremony took place. Vanessa’s mom has been working on this garden for several years and it’s amazing. I think this garden is more beautiful than anything Vanessa and I found on the blogs. So lovely.

Inspiration for the hay-bale seating came from Brit + Daniel’s Handcrafted Wedding on Ruffled.

Vanessa and Jason’s wedding signs were made by the groom’s talented parents. Floral Pom-Poms tutorial from Martha Stewart.

Congratulations Vanessa and Jason. Love you guys! I wish you all the happiness and adventure in the world.

Wedding Stationary & Design

9 Jul

Vanessa’s vintage inspired, farmyard wedding has been a big focus of The BB Creative since January when the lovely bride-to-be asked me to be her maid of honour. Now the wedding is over and I’m full of bittersweet feelings. I had the time of my life back at home helping Vanessa and her family decorate and prepare for the wedding. Wedding preparations and celebrations felt like a non-stop, five day party. I had the time of my life, but was also exhausted (and unfortunately sick) after it was all over. Helping Vanessa with wedding preparations and celebrations has definitely been the highlight of 2011 so far.  I truly feel honoured to have played such a big role in this momentous occasion.

After five days of running on pure adrenalin it is hard to fall back into my weekly routine of work and exercise. Although I am enjoying my projects at work and thoroughly enjoy my swim and dance classes they are not as exciting as celebrating true love (btw – congratulations Vanessa and Jason!). I am searching for a new project or adventure to start focusing my energies on. Any suggestions?

Since Vanessa’s wedding was a huge highlight for me, I would like to share some of the projects I worked on to make this event extra special.

I offered my design expertise to help Vanessa with her invitations, ceremony programs, reception programs, chair decorations, favour labels, and posters. I took an InDesign class in university and have been itching for a big design project to work on ever since. I am thrilled with how all my design projects turned out and hope Vanessa (and her mom) are as happy with the design as I am!

I kept the programs simple. I found a fantastic font called Romance Fatal Serif. I love this font and it influenced a lot of the design choices I made. I love ligatures and this font has a lot of great ligatures that were fun to play with. My secondary font is called Effloresce and it was perfect for all the copy in the body of the programs.

I have done several posts on the linocut stamps I made for the invitations, I love they way they turned out and couldn’t resist posting one last photo!

These honey jar favours inspired the theme of the wedding “Love is Sweet”. Inspiration for the honey jars came from Martha Stewart. I found the circle label design on Ruffled (yay for Freebie Fridays).

I loved Vanessa’s idea for the chair decorations, which doubled as seating cards. The chair decorations were very simple, effective, and had a nice impact on the room.

Thanks for letting me play such a big role in your wedding Vanessa! Love you! <3

Stay tuned for another post on the decorations for the wedding ceremony and reception!
