PostSecret TED Talk

10 Apr

I took a mental break this weekend to spend some time with family. Sorry for the late post!

I’m a devoted PostSecret reader and a fan Ted Talks. I was very pleased to see these two online trail blazers  join forces in this video. Enjoy!

Frank Warren: Half a million secrets

PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard.

Here are some of my favourite postcards recently posted on the PostSecret blog.

These are not my postcards. All these images are from PostSecret.

Have an excellent week!

It’s my blogoversary!

365 days, 121 comments, and 87 posts later The BB Creative is one year old! I’m really excited about my blogoversary. Why does this seem so much more exciting than my actual birthday?!

If you don’t mind I’m going to take a moment to reminisce and re-share some of the most popular stories, ideas, and projects I posted on The BB Creative.

I really have to thank my dear friend Vanessa for asking me to be her maid of honour and allowing me to blog about her charming Saskatchewan wedding. I loved blogging about Vanessa’s wedding and I think my readers enjoyed it as well. My posts on Vanessa’s wedding are some of the most popular stories on The BB Creative.

Want to see some amazing eye-candy (it’s 100% calorie free!)? Take a walk with me down memory lane and check out these very popular posts!

I started The BB Creative as a space for me to explore and reconnect with my artistic childhood dreams, to showcase past and present projects, and to share the work of other creatives that inspire me. I’ve really enjoyed sharing my handmade projects with you, my readers. This blog is an excellent catalogue of projects, events, tutorials and random inspiration I’ve found on other blogs that continue to motivate me creatively.

These aren’t necessarily my most popular posts, but they are some of my favourites and I believe they are worth revisiting because they have helped me get to where I am today.

I don’t think that I would have started this modest blog without the encouragement of the lovely Crafty Ladies! They gave me the extra little push I needed to start The BB Creative. They are the best and I love getting together for our crafternoons and later blogging about our crafty projects. Thanks for the moral support ladies!

I find keyword searches that bring people to The BB Creative really amusing. But I also take these Google keyword searches as huge compliments; I can’t believe that such lovely words direct people to my blog. Here are some of my favourite keyword searches from the past year:

  • gorgeous whimsical (love this!)
  • amazing invitations (obviously for Vanessa’s wedding)
  • vintage cheesecake (hahaha – what is vintage cheesecake?! Hilarious.)
  • hippie posters
  • i love art
  • dream

I can’t believe The BB Creative is a whole year old! Thank you so much for reading, whoever you are.  I am always amazed and surprised that people other than my mom find what I write about interesting. I know that time is a precious commodity and really appreciate that you are willing to share a small part of your busy week with me. Thank you.

Dear Friends – Happy Turkey Weekend!

I am sure that there will be many many lists in the blogosphere this weekend of people, places and things bloggers across Canada are thankful for. Here is my very humble list,  13 things (a baker’s dozen) I’m currently thankful for.

1.    Adventure. I need more of this in my life.
2.    My afghan. My grandma knitted me an afghan as a high school graduation present. It has become my adult blankie. Yes, I have a security blanket.
3.    My Apple iMac. This is my most prized possession.  Along with my iMac I should probably also include electricity, the internet, and social media.
4.    Creativity and curiosity. We all have stories to tell and the desire to leave our own creative mark.
5.    DanceFit at the Vancouver YWCA Health and Fitness Centre. DanceFit has revolutionized my exercise routine and makes me extremely happy (and healthy!).
6.    Family. My family is fabulous and are often very entertaining. I love them dearly.
7.    Friends. They are also fabulous. And I also love them dearly.
8.    Home. I have homes in both rural Saskatchewan and East Vancouver. Both places are breathtaking beautiful and comforting.
9.    The outdoors. There is nothing more refreshing than going for a walk, a hike, or spending an afternoon at the beach. These experiences are exponentially better if the sun is shining.
10.    Secrets. I am terrible at keeping secrets, but they definitely keep things interesting.
11.    Sunshine. Sunshine makes the world go round. Literally.
12.    Tea. My caffeinated drink of choice.
13.    W(h)ine Wednesday. There is nothing better than trying to figure out life over a home cooked meal, a bottle (or two) of wine, and chocolate.

Have a lovely weekend. Thanks for reading.

Life in a Day

19 Jun

Life in a Daythis looks inspiring, amazing, magical.

Via National Geographic: What happens when you send a request out to the world to chronicle, via video, a single day on Earth? You get 80,000 submissions and 4,500 hours of footage from 192 countries, all shot on the same day. Producer Ridley Scott and Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald took this raw material and created Life in a Day, a groundbreaking, feature-length documentary that portrays this kaleidoscope of images we call life. Prepare to be amazed.

Life in a Day premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2011, and was simultaneously live streamed on YouTube. If you missed it (like me), or want to see it again on the big screen, worry not. National Geographic will be bringing Life in a Day to theaters around the US (and hopefully Canada!) on July 24th, 2011 – the first anniversary of the day the movie was shot.

PostSecret Sundays

13 Feb

I am a devoted PostSecret fan. Every Sunday morning I wake up, make some tea, and read some secrets. It has become a lovely part of my weekend routine.

I have an ambivalent relationship towards Valentine’s Day this year, but I still enjoyed this PostSecret Valentine’s Day video. I hope you do too.
